Sophie Barford is an HCPC-registered Neurologic Music Therapist (MA Music Therapy, BA Hons, NMT™) and is a member of the British Association for Music Therapy (BAMT). She works with clients of all ages, supporting a wide range of needs including neuro-rehabilitation, dementia, autism, learning difficulties and mental health.

She is passionate about helping people connect, communicate and heal through music and is co-Founder and Director of Music and Motherhood CIC – a postnatal music therapy group for women and their babies, offering support and connection in the early stages of motherhood. Sophie will also soon be launching Voices of Aphasia’s Wiltshire choir, supporting people with aphasia to rediscover their voice through specialised group singing.

Alongside her therapy work, Sophie is an experienced musician and multi-instrumentalist playing piano, cello, guitar, saxophone, and more. She is an Associate Musician with GSW Music Hub and Wiltshire Young Musicians, directs the youth ensemble Chippenham Strings and regularly performs and collaborates with artists as a supporting musician and session player.

Sophie has an abundance of experience as a music educator and has been an Examiner for ABRSM for nearly ten years. This role has taken her across the world as an ambassador for the board, running workshops for music teachers and supporting musicians at every stage of their learning.

Sophie is also a trained voice actor, having studied under Melissa Thom at BRAVA, with professional experience in commercial voiceover and audiobook narration.

Based in Wiltshire with her family, Sophie enjoys long countryside walks, honing her culinary skills and the occasional burst of motorsport!
